🇪🇺 The project participants had the opportunity to meet with policymaker Jan Hamming, the Mayor of Zaanstad, to discuss election results and participation patterns in voting.
This meeting gave the participants a chance to gain insight into the strategies of mobilising voters, and the challenges that come with this. Importantly, Jan Hamming's experiences with changing political outreach strategies over time with the rise of modern media and misinformation were discussed.
💬 In this conversation we covered the importance of local politics, encouraging local political participation, and bridging the gap between young and old voters. Jan Hamming communicated a strong passion for reaching people directly and wanting every voice to be heard, with a resounding call to action to increase youth participation through education, stronger outreach efforts, and increasing representation for young voters.
