š³š± In the framework of our "Participate & Promote Democracy" EU Youth Participation Project, the youth participants explored how democratic elections function.
Raising their voice in democracy, Armenian participants interviewed different policymakers.
Arman Yeghoyan, Chair of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly of Armenia, shared insights with Democracy Project participants on Armeniaās path toward electoral reform, tackling disinformation, boosting youth participation and fostering a stronger, more transparent democracy, aligned with European standards.
Gegham Nazaryan, Armenian politician, former journalist, and current independent member of the National Assembly, addresses the reasons behind low youth voter engagement. He highlights the crucial role of education in helping young people understand the importance of elections and participate actively in democratic processes.
Mariam Hoveyan, a member of Transparency International, discusses the importance of voter turnout, the role of civic responsibility, and the need for open dialogue to build trust in elections.

Vahagn Hovakimyan, Chair of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia, discusses voter turnout and its meaning in democratic systems. Hovakimyan notes that low participation is not necessarily a negative indicator, unless it results from a mass boycott or a coordinated political agreement. He emphasizes that diverse levels of engagement can be a natural characteristic of a functioning democracy.

Politician and former journalist Sisak Gabrielyan discussed the role of young people in elections, with a special focus on first-time voters. He highlighted the youth's responsibility, awareness, and potential impact on the democratic process, while also acknowledging the challenges young people face in engaging with politics and the need for informed civic participation.
